Neighborhood

Nob Hill is one of San Francisco’s historic "Seven Hills" and has long been a symbol of luxury and prestige. The neighborhood rose to prominence in the late 19th century when wealthy railroad tycoons built their grand mansions there, drawn by the area’s commanding views and the convenience of the newly invented cable car, which made the steep incline accessible. Today, Nob Hill retains its historic charm while blending with modern urban vibrancy. It is known for its elegant architecture, including landmarks like the iconic Fairmont Hotel, Grace Cathedral, and the Mark Hopkins Hotel, which showcase the grandeur of the area’s past. While many of the original mansions were lost in the 1906 earthquake and fire, the neighborhood has evolved into a lively hub with upscale hotels, fine dining, and a large population of young urban professionals. Its central location makes it a perfect spot for exploring nearby attractions. Nob Hill is surrounded by the Financial District, Union Square for shopping, Chinatown with its rich cultural history, and the dining and nightlife of North Beach. In terms of restaurants, the options are almost endless. Some local favorites include Nob Hill Café at Taylor & Sacramento for Italian comfort food, Milano at Pacific & Hyde for hearty Italian dishes, Hyde Street Seafood at Hyde & Pacific for fresh seafood, and Rue Le Pic at Mason & Pine for French cuisine. For even more dining ideas, check the house manual. Just talking about it is making me hungry! Nob Hill is truly a mix of history, elegance, and modern city life—offering something for everyone.

Guest Access

For your convenience, we recommend parking in one of the nearby public garages, as street parking can be challenging and typically short-term. You’ll find a list of garages in the house manual, or feel free to contact the host before your arrival for options. Although our apartment is located on a secluded pedestrian lane in Nob Hill, you’re in the heart of San Francisco! Several bus lines and the cable car are just steps away, providing easy access to the entire city. With a walk score of 96, you’ll enjoy fantastic walkability—just be prepared for a few hills along the way! You’ll have a private entrance with a lockbox for easy check-in.

A peaceful little oasis down a beautiful alley in a busy part of town. It felt like entering my own secret bubble in a big bustling city. A rare find and I'd love to stay again.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: From the airport, you can take a shuttle to our place near the corner of Leavenworth and Sacramento which drops you off at the back of Tahona Market. Alternatively, you can take BART to the Embarcadero station. At Embarcadero Center, catch the #1 California bus (which runs along Sacramento) and get off at the Jones and Sacramento stop. From there, walk down to Golden Court. There are several Muni buses very near the apartment which will get you all over the city. We recommend getting a Clipper Card (at any Walgreens Drugs) for longer stays PARKING GARAGES: +Grace Cathedral Garage. 1051 Taylor St. It is about two blocks from the flat. +Old First Garage. 1725 Sacramento St. It is about 3 1/2 blocks from the flat. +Nob Hill Masonic Center Garage. 1101 California St. 2 blocks from my house. If you are going to come in and out during the day, the best is to buy a prepaid ticket for the days you are going to park at the garage. Price range between $30 to $40 dollars per day. APARTMENT LOCATION: Upon arrival in San Francisco, make your way to the corner of Leavenworth and Sacramento streets.
