Good to know
Tucked beneath a cathedral of old-growth redwoods in Occidental, California, this 1906 farmhouse-style cabin carries more than a century of quiet character. The forest wraps around you the moment you arrive - pine needles underfoot, birdsong overhead, and the kind of stillness that city life rarely offers. July warmth filters softly through the canopy, and the surrounding greenery keeps the atmosphere pleasantly shaded throughout the day. Living space Inside, open beam ceilings stretch overhead and warm wood tones line every wall, anchoring the cabin's historic personality. The centerpiece of the main living area is a stunning vintage stone fireplace - ideal for evening gatherings or quiet nights in with a book. Slightly uneven floors and one-of-a-kind architectural details give the space an honest, lived-in soul that no newly built rental can replicate. A large living room offers room to relax, read, or simply breathe. Sleeping arrangements Two bedrooms sleep up to 4 guests across 3 beds, comfortably arranged for couples, small families, or a group of close friends. Bed linens and hangers are provided, and clothing storage keeps things tidy throughout your stay. Kitchen & dining Up on the upper level, a quaint kitchen is equipped with cooking basics, a coffee maker, and a dining table - everything needed for unhurried mornings at the breakfast nook. The charming antique stove adds a distinctive vintage touch; it rewards a little patience and more than repays it with atmosphere. Bathroom The main bathroom includes a bathtub for long soaks after days spent outdoors. An additional outdoor toilet and shower are also available on the property for the more adventuresome guest. A hair dryer is provided, and a washer is accessible on the back deck for longer stays. Outdoor living Step out onto a spacious deck furnished for outdoor dining and lounging beneath the trees - a natural setting for slow mornings with coffee or relaxed evenings with wine. Privacy fencing creates a sense of seclusion, and free off-street parking accommodates up to 3 vehicles. Security cameras are installed at the front gate and rear of the property for added peace of mind. Hot tub A hot tub is available from July onwards - a welcome addition for warm summer evenings under the redwood canopy. Location Occidental sits at the heart of Sonoma County's coastal hills, and the cabin places you within a short drive of charming local villages and Northern California attractions. WiFi is available on the property, though speeds may vary given the remote setting - well suited for streaming and email, though not ideal for heavy video conferencing. The forested surroundings mean the occasional critter or pine needle is part of the experience; regular pest control is maintained for guest comfort. There is no air conditioning, but the deep tree cover keeps the cabin naturally cool, and fans are provided throughout.
Other Details to Note
This is a vintage cabin built in 1906, so you may notice a few quirks here and there—slightly uneven floors, cozy room sizes, and a charming (but old) stove that takes a little patience. We think it adds to the magic, but want you to be comfy and informed! There is no air conditioning. The cabin stays relatively cool thanks to the forest setting and shaded deck, but we provide fans for warmer days. We’re in the forest! Expect the occasional critter or pine needle—nature is part of the charm. We have regular pest control and do our best to keep everything tidy. WiFi is available, but due to the remote setting, speeds can vary. Great for streaming and email—maybe not ideal for multiple Zoom meetings. We love this little place and hope you will too.
